One of my favorite library-oriented blogs, Library Dust, has departed. Michael McGrorty, the blog's iconoclastic and witty author, is no longer in the library field (our great loss) and has decided to take it down. I enjoyed his stories about his finds in book stores and thrift shops, his garden, his motorcycle trips, and his mother. He also sent me some of the funkiest greeting cards I've ever seen.
I'll miss these excursions with you, Michael.

What makes me sad about this--aside from losing Michael's unmistakeable voice and fabulous story telling--is where have all those stories gone? We--as a community of conservors--have failed miserably at conserving. Do Mr Dust's wonderful stories only exist in my head?
If nothing else, someone needs to preserve his flower photos--he grows some of the best roses I've ever seen.

It was only writing, George.
Michael, working on a new blog.
