Sunny Days & Mondays

On Saturday, a lovely sunny day, about 25 OCLC staff, including your bloggers, George and Alane, along with kids, dogs, friends and spouses, participated in a 10K walk in support of the UNCF. According to the UNCF web site, this event in Columbus attracts over 65 companies and over 2,500 participants. As you can see, we had team t-shirts as did many of the other corporate teams. The morning was cool but, of course, this made for a very pleasant walk down and back along Broad Street which has many architecturally interesting buildings.

True enough, this doesn't have a whole lot to do with trends. But literacy and education are fundamental to a civil society and this event has a lot to do with supporting people in their quests to be educated.

Most of the OCLC UNCF walking team. George is taking the picture and his wife, Joyce, is in the front, leaning on her water bottle. Lillie, who organized the OCLC team is to Joyce's right. We're all very proud of Lillie as she was recently awarded a Phd. I'm in the middle--black cap and blue rain jacket. Posted by Hello

I'm so glad Alane posted this. Sure, it doesn't have much to do with the Scan, but we had a great walk, raised some money for a VERY worthy cause, and helped show a library organization as a bunch of cool, faily fit people.

Of course, my threesome was about the last group to finish. I hate to admit it, but it took us 2 hours and 15 minutes to walk six miles. We had someone in our group who had just had toe surgery the week before, and we also stopped to look at the architectural gems along the way.
